We are taking applications for YouthTECH 2021

is a competitive initiative by Southside Electric Cooperative in lieu of the 2021 Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., which has been canceled due to continuing concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizers were concerned about the safety and health of participants and chaperones.
will award new laptop computers to 8 current high school and/or homeschool juniors across SEC’s 18-county service area. Students’ parents or guardians do not have to receive electricity from SEC to be eligible. Students must live and attend school in one of the Cooperative’s 18 counties (See below). Eligible juniors are encouraged to apply by completing the application and writing an essay of no more than 500 words on a personal characteristic they are developing and why. A current headshot photograph is also required as part of the application process. Photos will be used for promotional purposes if the student is selected. Applications, essays and photos should arrive at SEC’s headquarters in Crewe or one of the district offices in Altavista, Crewe, Dinwiddie or Powhatan by 4:30 p.m. on March 26. Use drive-thru windows to drop off materials.
winners will be chosen by an SEC panel. Due to COVID-19, no personal interviews will be held. Winners will be announced this spring.
