Southside Electric Cooperative will have a planned power outage on Monday, October 19

Southside Electric Cooperative will have a planned power outage on Monday, October 19, to repair a damaged, splitting crossarm found during a regular inspection of SEC’s utility poles. The damaged crossarm is in Dinwiddie County, near Lake Chesdin. Approximately 2,750 residential members and 70 businesses will be affected.

SEC’s goal is to handle the necessary repair under controlled circumstances rather than in an emergency situation, which would prolong interruption time. The damaged crossarm is on a three-phase transmission line. This is a high voltage line, and due to safety concerns for our lineworkers, we cannot work on the repair with the lines energized; therefore, we need to have a planned outage.

The outage is scheduled to last approximately three hours from 9 a.m. – 12 noon. All members involved are being telephoned and, if cell numbers have been provided, they will receive a text message.

We apologize for this interruption of service and appreciate your patience, as we continue to safeguard the reliability of your electric cooperative. For more information, please telephone SEC at 1-800-552-2118.
