CREWE, Va – The first-ever Opportunity Fund Skeet Classic will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center in Appomattox. The day will begin with registration at 8 a.m. and include morning and afternoon rounds, lunch, raffle, awards and, since it’s being held in Appomattox, a demonstration of weapons used in the Civil War.

All proceeds will go to Southside Opportunity Fund scholarships for graduating high school seniors in Southside Electric Cooperative's (SEC) service area. In just two years, 30 $1,000 scholarships have been given to students headed to college or a trade/technical school whose parents or guardians are served by SEC.

The individual registration fee for the skeet shoot is $75, while squads of five can sign up for $325. All participants must provide their own guns and ammunition, and skeet shooters of all levels are welcome. The
event is limited to the first 50 participants, who must register in advance. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 26.

Sponsorship and donation opportunities are available for businesses and individuals who'd like to support this event. Sponsor returns include having a squad in the event, banners, signage and recognition in the event program.
For more information or to register as a participant or sponsor, please contact Mark Thomas, community relations coordinator in SEC’s Altavista office, at 434-645-3276 or mark.thomas@sec.coop or visit
